he Community Development Support and Expenditure (CDSE) Scheme has been designed by the Australian Government to ensure that larger registered clubs in NSW such as Wests Illawarra contribute to front-line services in their local community. Under such legislation Wests Illawarra is required to invest 1.5% of our total gaming revenue into community projects under two specific categories.
Category One: covers community welfare and social services, community development, community health services and employment assistant activities. This category also includes national charities that have a presence in NSW. Examples of expenditure available for category one include the following –
• Community Welfare & Social Services: counselling services, child care / protection, family support etc
• Community Development: education programs and transport services etc
• Community Health Services: childhood health, therapy, mental health services etc
• Employment Assistant Activities: group training, community enterprises, employment advocacy etc
Category Two: covers expenditure on other community development and support services (traditional areas of club expenditure, such as support for sport and recreation groups).
Clubs must contribute at least 50% of those allocated funds to category one, with the remainder allocated to category two.
The tax year for CDSE is September to August, in the current year; Wests Illawarra has contributed over $230, 000 in 2008 / 2009. Some of the recent community groups who have received assistance include:
