Why?

Young people are more exposed to gambling than ever before – through advertising, sport, social media and video games. It’s important that parents understand the influence they have on their children’s gambling now and in future.

Parents can take simple steps to reduce their child’s risk of gambling harm by:

• monitoring and setting rules around online screen time
• not gambling in front of their kids
• talking to their children about the impacts of gambling.

While parents and careers are the biggest influence on their children’s gambling attitudes and behaviors, other factors such as gambling advertising and exposure to gambling in video games also influence young people’s ideas and intentions about gambling.
